Elgato Stream Deck MK.2 Guide: The Tool Streamers Say They Should Have Bought Sooner

Researched pick · Researched with AI · not a hands-on review
Scene switching, audio cues, and alerts on physical keys — a single tap replacing a scramble through keyboard shortcuts. It's the tool streamers most often describe as something they wish they'd added to their setup much earlier.
A 15-key macro pad built specifically for streaming and content workflows, and the second-generation refresh of Elgato's original Stream Deck — still the foundation of the entire Stream Deck product line, including the Mini, XL, and Stream Deck +.

Why it's the pick
Windows Central called it the default recommendation for anyone starting out in streaming, citing native platform integration as the deciding factor. Tom's Hardware's testing confirmed the software depth goes well beyond basic scene switching. Laptop Mag's review also made the case for non-streamers who want to simplify their audio and video setup, and Windows Central points to plugins for smart lighting and Spotify.
Where it falls short
The price draws consistent pushback for what's fundamentally an accessory, not core hardware. Tom's Hardware was frank that the changes probably won't be enough to push owners of the original to upgrade. It's also worth knowing it has no built-in tripod mount, requiring a separate mounting accessory if that's part of your desk setup.
Who it's for
Streamers who want one-tap control over scenes, audio, and alerts without memorizing keyboard shortcuts — and, per multiple reviews, genuinely useful for anyone doing desk-bound work that benefits from programmable macro keys, streaming or not. Pairs naturally in this loadout with the Elgato HD60 X for a complete Elgato capture-and-control setup.
